The cycle of incarceration begins and ends
in community.

The Legal Empowerment & Advocacy Hub (L.E.A.H) builds new legal ecosystems rooted in legal empowerment, peacebuilding, and community leadership.

WHO WE ARE

L.E.A.H is the embodiment of "inside-out legal empowerment", where law becomes not a tool of exclusion, but of transformation and belonging.

The Legal Empowerment & Advocacy Hub (L.E.A.H) equips communities impacted by incarceration and systemic injustice with the knowledge, tools, and relationships to navigate and transform systems through legal empowerment and peacebuilding.

OUR MISSION

L.E.A.H envisions a world where communities most impacted by systemic injustice have the power, knowledge, and collective agency to shape justice, build peace, and transform their futures. Guided by Sustainable Development Goal 16, we seek to create peaceful, just, and inclusive societies with strong and accountable institutions where every person can access, use, and shape the law.

OUR WORK

Our work is cyclical, not linear, because real change does not happen in a straight line. Rooted in legal empowerment, peacebuilding, and participatory action methods grounded in Black feminist praxis, L.E.A.H centers those most impacted by injustice in understanding, shaping, and transforming systems. Through collective learning, relationship-building, and community leadership, this commitment shapes everything we do. The 3 core strategies that guide our work are:

Legal Empowerment:

Democratizing and demystifying the law by equipping communities with the knowledge, tools, and relationships to confidently understand, navigate, use, and transform the laws that shape their everyday lives.

Peacebuilding

Addressing the harm and violence caused by systems through healing, relationship-building, and collective transformation rooted in our shared humanity and the recognition that transformation must occur at the individual, relational, and systemic levels.

Participatory Action Methods

Using collective learning, reflection, and collaboration to build shared language, strengthen relationships, and co-create community-led solutions.
